DJ Mes

DJ Mes (Jason Sutton), founder of Guesthouse Music in Oakland, has been a key figure in the underground house scene since the mid-1990s. Influenced early on by legends like DJ Dan and Tony Hewitt, he launched Guesthouse in 2004 as a personal and creative project. Since then, the label has released nearly 600 tracks—including 50 on vinyl— featuring Mes’s signature blend of disco-influenced, bass-heavy house music.

Mes gained widespread recognition with his 2011 track “Fools Gold” (Cajual Recordings), which topped Traxsource’s best house tracks of the year. His sharp A&R skills helped launch artists like J Paul Getto, Cosy Creatures, and Gramphonedzie, while he continued touring globally and releasing on top labels like Relief, Salted, and Glasgow Underground.

Always looking to innovate, Mes balances honoring the roots of house with pushing its boundaries. Through Guesthouse, he continues to champion new talent and sounds, staying true to his mantra: bass, beats, and funk.
